Meet the Coach
1989 Dallas White Rock Marathon
Doug Storey started running in 1968 in high school in Cameron and Robinson Texas, small central Texas towns. He continued running competitively at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Post college, he resumed running and competing in races in his late 30's. His post collegian times include a 4:38 mile, a 17:00 5K, a 35:20 10K and a 2:48 marathon. Masters times include a 4:54 mile, 17:32 5K, a 37:01 10K, and a 3:18 marathon. Now as a Geezer in his early 60's, he still is running around 6:15 for the mile (goal is still to break 6:00 again) and regularly places high in age group in triathlon.
Doug has has been lucky to have been coached by some of the best in the country including Clyde Hart, the former head coach at Baylor University; Jon Warren, the head track coach at Rice University: Al Lawrence, world record holder, olympic medalist and author of several books on running; and Jim McLatchie, the coach of the Houston Harriers. He has taken something from each and every one of them and incorporated it into his coaching philosophies.
Doug holds Road Runners Club of America and USA Track & Field coaching certifications and is CPR and first aid certified. He has been coaching athletes since 1999, was the run coach for Houston Racing Triathlon Club, was the Elite Athlete Coordinator for the Houston Tenneco Marathon from 1993-1996, and was a Galloway Training Program Coordinator in Houston, Texas. In 2013, Doug formed Bayou City Elite Racing Team a competitive, invitation only, racing team in the Houston Area. Qualifications for Bayou City Elite are set by the coach and training is intense. He is currently training competetive athletes for middle distance races to the marathon distance.
If you are an experienced runner and would like to improve your abilities, we would welcome the opportunity to develop an individualized training plan for the race(s) of your choice. In addition to the training plan, you will have access to the coach through e-mail and/or phone conversations. He will provide weekly track workouts for those that need them.
